A Rock & A Hard Place

The Summer I Turned Pretty series by Jenny Han is my all time favourite series. There have been numerous books that I couldn’t put down, but these three books captured me like no other. I always find myself visiting Cousins time and time again. Beck’s boys make you want to be Belly. I love Jeremiah, but my heart belongs to Conrad. My favourite part in the entire series comes from the third book, We’ll Always Have Summer. It’s when Conrad and Jeremiah go surfing and Conrad asks Jer about getting married to Belly. Jeremiah, being the sensitive one, does not want any part of the conversation.

“…I punched my hand through the water. I wanted to kick his ass. This is between me and Belly. Smug piece of shit. He was marrying my girl, and I couldn’t do anything about it. I just had to watch it happen, because he was my brother, because I promised. Take care of him Connie, I’m counting on you.”

Every time I get to that part I have to read it over about 3 times. Don’t ask me why lol. It’s the first time that I can remember where Conrad verbally (well, mentally in the context) acknowledges how much Belly means to him. There’s so much more to Conrad and you just wish you could find a boy to love you as infinitely as he loves Belly. Aside from the utter awesomeness of this series, Jenny Han is the coolest writer ever! Just from reading her tweets and seeing what she posts on her blog, you know you’d want her as a friend. And the fact that she’s adding some of Conrad’s letters to Belly in the paperback version of We’ll Always Have Summer makes her the greatest person on Earth :)

So the first book/series post goes to Belly Conklin and Beck’s boys, because they make you dream of the perfect summer love.
