A Rock & A Hard Place

For the love of YA fiction.
I picked this book up in the summer with no expectations. I’d seen it at Chapter’s tons of times, but the cover never caught my interest, so I never bothered to read the synopsis. Chapter’s was having their buy 3 get 1 free sale and I couldn’t find another book to add to the 3 I already had, so I just grabbed this book, and boy was I glad that I did! I’d never heard the term “The DUFF” before, and I thought it was kind of insulting, but once you realize that all girls feel like The DUFF at one point or another, it doesn’t seem so bad. It took me awhile to start liking Bianca, but I liked Wesley right away. He started caring about her early on in their weird relationship and you could tell he was a good guy, just misunderstood. Again, my favourite line has to do with the unemotional guy finally admitting his feelings. Go figure lol

“Wesley Rush doesn’t chase girls, but I’m chasing you.”

I get why Bianca was hesitant to start a real relationship with Wesley. If I was going through all the things she was going through, the way Wesley made her feel would scare the crap out of me too. They seem like total opposites, but in the end they were right for each other. Happy endings are the best :)

Kody Keplinger wrote this book when she was 17! Such an amazing accomplishment at such a young age. She has definitely been an inspiration to me. I’ve wanted to write a book for so long now, but came up with so many excuses not to start. After finding out she wrote such a great story when she was still a teenager made me realize that if you have a dream, don’t let anything get in the way of making it a reality.

The DUFF by Kody Keplinger was a pleasant surprise. The two main characters had their share of problems and they ended up needing each other to heal. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever felt alone and insignificant. There are more of us out there than we know.
